First sports betting for the Stillaguamish and Kalispel tribes in Washington

Following the first launch in September, which occurred after a variety of agreements had been struck, the ecosystem of sports betting in the state of Washington has gained further depth as a result of launches that have been performed by the Stillaguamish and Kalispel tribes.

As a result of this, the Stillaguamish and Kalispel tribes will be able to legalize sports betting at the Angel of the Winds and Northern Quest casinos that are owned by them respectively.

During the course of this year, a number of agreements concerning amendments to sports wagering compacts have been outlined in detail. In September, the Snoqualmie Tribe became the first entity in the state to begin offering sports betting through its Snoqualmie Casino, which is powered by International Game Technology.

There are a total of 16 tribes in the state of Washington that have been granted permission to begin offering sports betting, and other announcements from other tribal casinos are likely to come in the very near future.

The executive director of the Washington Indian Gaming Association, Rebecca George, provided the following explanation: "The launch of sports betting this week at a second and third tribal casino in Washington State is an important development for Washington State's tribes, which depend on gaming revenues to fund essential services for tribal communities and which are a critical piece of tribes' ongoing work to build tribal communities and strengthen self-reliance."

"Sports betting began on Wednesday at Angel of the Winds in Arlington and will open for the general public on Thursday at Northern Quest in Airway Heights outside of Spokane. This offers major benefits not only for tribal members but also for the surrounding communities, which benefit from the hundreds of jobs and the substantial economic activity that are created by tribal gaming.

The profits generated through tribal gambling have a proven track record of making significant contributions to the general economic well-being of communities located all around the state of Washington.

"And the general public can be at ease knowing that the addition of sports betting at these reputable casinos will be subject to stringent oversight and will be managed in a responsible manner.

"Tribal gaming has a proven 30-year track record of success in the state of Washington, and in order to proceed with the addition of sports betting, each of the participating tribes has exercised extreme caution."

"The decision that the Washington State legislature made in 2020, with a bipartisan supermajority, to authorize sports betting at tribal casinos has been further validated by the events that have occurred this week.

"As more sports betting operations open in the coming months at other tribal casinos, responsible adults all across the state of Washington will now have the opportunity to participate in sports betting, and this will take place without a massive expansion of gambling into our neighborhoods and local communities. " It is the ideal distribution of elements."
